Savouge’s balanced attack overwhelms VNS in Spikers Turf

SANTA ROSA, LAGUNA — Savouge wasted no time in dismantling VNS, 25-16, 25-23, 25-16, to secure its second consecutive win in the 2024 Spikers’ Turf Invitational Conference on Tuesday at the Santa Rosa Sports Complex here.

The Spin Doctors carried their momentum from their debut victory against Martelli Meats last Friday, improving their record to 2-0 and tying FEU-DN Steel for the top spot.

“Lagi ko ngang sinasabi sa team ko na let’s do it one step at a time. So kung sino ‘yung makakalaban natin, gawin lang natin ‘yung best natin. So ‘yun lang sinabi ko sa kanila. ‘Wag muna nating isipin ‘yung ranking na ‘yan,” said Savouge head coach Sydney Calderon.

The Spin Doctors displayed a complete team effort, with 10 players contributing at least two points in their one-hour and 17-minute demolition of the young Griffins.

Lorenz Señoron and Norwel Sanama led the balanced offensive attack with nine points each. Meanwhile, Giles Torres and Louis Gamban added eight and seven points, respectively, for Savouge.

Vince Imperial provided 12 excellent sets along with two points, while Rikko Marmeto recorded 13 excellent receptions in the victory.

“Pinaghirapan namin ‘yung win namin today, it was a team effort kasi lahat gumagalaw. Nakita niyo naman pinasok namin lahat ng players,” added Calderon.

The Spin Doctors aim to extend their winning streak to three when they face powerhouse Cignal on Friday, 6:00 PM, at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

Meanwhile, VNS stumbled after their straight-set win against the Master Butchers, dropping to 1-2.

The Griffins will try to bounce back against the Ultras on November 3, 4:00 PM, at the Philsports Arena.
