Red-hot Savouge sustained its momentum, pushing Chichi DHTSI to the brink of elimination with a dominant 25-13, 25-13, 25-00 sweep, forging a tie at the top of the 2024 Spikers’ Turf Invitational Conference standings on Wednesday at the Philsports Arena.
Spin Doctors head coach Sydney Calderon adjusted the team’s rotation and maximized all available personnel, leading to a quick, one-hour and four-minute win over the Titans. This victory pushed Savouge’s standing to 4-0, tying them with FEU-DN Steel for the number one spot.
Calderon noted that the team’s upset win over Cignal served as a significant confidence booster for Savouge in their dominant outing against Chichi DHTSI.
“Malaking boost ng confidence sa amin ‘yun, hindi naman basta-basta ‘yung Cignal. Pero kagaya nga ng sabi ko sa team ko, tapos na ‘yung laban namin sa Cignal so different story na ito. We have to push forward pa,” said Calderon.
“Happy talaga ako kasi lahat ng tinraining namin, lumabas siya sa game na ‘to,” she added.
John Diwa led the balanced attack for the Spin Doctors, firing 11 points on seven attacks, three blocks, and an ace, while Renzel Antonio was the other double-digit scorer for the team with 10 points, both in just two sets played.
Marvin Romero, Hero Austria, and Charlee Magpayo all contributed six points each in the victory.
JC Enarciso made the most of his spot start, delivering 17 excellent sets to go along with two points and five excellent digs for Savouge.
The Spin Doctors will put their unbeaten slate on the line when they face fellow leader Ultras on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.
Meanwhile, the Titans, now on the verge of elimination after dropping to 0-6, were led by Matt Miguel with six points. No other player breached the three-point mark for the struggling team.
Chichi DHTSI takes on VNS on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. at Ynares in hopes of reviving its fading playoff hopes.
