Savkina-Samoilenko remains confident despite tough climb for PLDT

PLDT import Elena Savkina-Samoilenko remained confident that the High Speed Hitters can win their remaining game to be able to earn a shot at a semis spot in the 2022 Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference.

PLDT scored a win on its debut before losing the next three games – which includes the controversial defeat against Petro Gazz. The High Speed Hitters were able to get back on track after sweeping Akari last Thursday.

Samoilenko said that the team must keep their focus on the task at hand when they take on the second-ranked Chery Tiggo this coming Thursday.

Standing at 3-4 after their win against Cignal on Tuesday, PLDT must sweep the Crossovers and hope that either the HD Spikers, Petro Gazz, Choco Mucho, or F2 Logistics lose their remaining games to have the best chance of making it into the semifinals.

“We need to win, of course and we need to work. We need to focus, and we need good motivation. I think we can win. If we do good work, we win,” said the Russian spiker.

The 6-foot-4 outside hitter dropped 27 points, 11 excellent digs, and seven excellent receptions in the High Speed Hitters’ 25-21, 25-23, 22-25, 25-21 victory over the HD Spikers at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Samoilenko said that she was glad that the team managed to come back in the fourth set after crumbling in the third frame. Still, the 27-year-old said that it was a good overall game for PLDT.

“Today was really a good game in the first set and second set. We had good concentration. But the third set, we were a little bit loose. Maybe not good receive, not good serve. After, we can and we win,” said Samoilenko.
