One of the brightest young talents in Philippine football has found a new home.
Sandro Reyes, the 19-year-old midfielder who has represented the Azkals Development Team and Kaya-Iloilo in his professional career so far, announced on Tuesday that he has signed a contract with German side SpVgg Greuther Fürth.
“Excited to be a part of 2.Bundesliga club SpVgg Greuther Fürth,” read a post from the 5-foot-8 standout’s Instagram account.
“The past couple (of) football years haven’t been the smoothest but hours of work every single day, faith in God’s will, and, of course, positivity and optimism always in between kept me going through my rough football days,” he continued.
“This one is for those who were beside me through it all, and for the young boys and girls in the Philippines to dream big, one big para sa bayan.”
By signing with SpVgg Greuther Fürth, Reyes becomes the second Filipino to represent the club after retired Azkals midfielder Stephan Schrock.
Beforehand, the PAREF Southridge School alumnus played for the ADT in the 2021 Copa Paulino Alcantara, where he helped the team reach the finals of that tournament.
He then joined Kaya-Iloilo last year and represented the club in the qualification phase of the 2022 AFC Champions League as well as in the group stage of the 2022 AFC Cup.
Reyes has represented the Philippines at the senior level nine times. He made headlines last month thanks to his stunning goal against Brunei in the 2022 Mitsubishi Electric Cup.
