San Miguel-Rain or Shine Game 2 Additional Quotes

The Rain or Shine Elasto Painters turned the tables on the San Miguel Beermen after withstanding a barrage from Marcio Lassiter and Arizona Reid, shocking the Beermen in Game 2 with a 113-110 victory that tied the semi-final series.

Down by 17 late in the third quarter, the Elasto Painters buckled down to work in the payoff period to score the come-from-behind win, and gain victory heading into the next chapter of the series.

Elasto Painters Head Coach Yeng Guiao described the match as “probably one of the most amazing comebacks or amazing games” he has ever coached.

On a one-of-a-kind comeback: “We survived the incredible shooting of [Marcio] Lassiter. We just weathered the storm and composed ourselves. We fought back. This is a god-given game. Only god can script a game like this. We put our hearts into it but only god can write it this way. We thought it was a lost game but we hung in there.”

On how the team approached the final quarter: “What we did in the [final moments] we tried to fine tune our defense for the next game if we are not going to win but it paid dividends. They played with a lot character. A team made of lesser stuff would have broken down by that torrid shooting. I am proud of how they stood up.”

Quinañan played extensive minutes (31 minutes, 11 points) in Game 2, with Beau Belga out due to a right ankle sprain. Belga is expected to return in Game 4, which leaves Quiñahan a daunting task again in Game 3. Rain or Shine already lost Jervy Cruz due to a foot fracture, and Quiñahan will have to assert himself against San Miguel’s bigs.

On stepping up in the absence of Belga: “Sa team namin kapag may injury, every player mag-step up maski kaposisyon mo o hindi. Ang sabi lang ni Coach sa akin lang naka-assign ngayon. Binigay ko na lahat ng effort. Wala ka nang ibang iisipin kung hindi si June Mar [Fajardo]. Huwag mo lang iwan, and full-time yung defense mo sa kaniya.”

Baka kailangan may katulong pa. I think kaya naman ni Raymond [Almazan].”

On outlook in Game 3: “Ganun pa rin siguro. Kailangan pahirapan si June Mar. Kaya naman e. Kapag hindi na kaya, pwede naman magpa-sub then bumalik. Yun naman trabaho ko, taga-tulak. Kahit mabigat, tinitiis lang.”
