Graduating star Samantha Catantan bested Angel Beltran, 15-6, in an all-University of the East girls’ individual saber final to claim her second gold of the UAAP Season 82 High School Fencing tournament, Wednesday at the Paco Arena.
Andrea Matias led the Recto-based squad in another 1-2 finish in the girls’ epee, scoring a 15-13 win over Jaymi delos Santos.
Gunning for a ninth consecutive girls title, UE has now collected three golds and three silvers.
The Junior Warriors also continued their dominance in the boys’ division. Shawn Felipe beat his brother reigning MVP Prince John, 15-9, to capture the individual foil gold in another all-UE finale.
The 10-peat seeking Junior Warriors now have a two-day total of 3-1-2 haul.
UST completed the podium in the girls’ individual saber courtesy of Kristel Chacon and Kim Tuy, as well as in the girls’ individual epee courtesy of Rose Mira and Bhea Raguin.
Ateneo’s Aidan Feliciano Reyes and Seth Cucio clinched the boys’ individual foil bronze.
