Mahindra Floodbuster rookie and Gilas cadet Russel Escoto had to be stretchered out of the game during their game against the NLEX Road Warriors, Friday afternoon at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.
The 23-year-old’s left knee buckled with 23.1 seconds remaining in the second quarter during a box out scenario against NLEX rookie Alfonzo Gotladera. Prior to the play, Escoto was on a roll, scoring 12 points on a 5-of-5 shooting clip — helping Mahindra erect a 57-49 lead.
Escoto left the arena at around 5:42pm at his own will but was supported by crutches.
“Sabi ni doc minor lang,” Escoto said. “Sprain lang ata ng LCL [lateral collateral ligament].”
The product of Far Eastern University is currently averaging 7.6 points on 44.8 percent shooting and 8.4 rebounds this conference.
Back in 2013, Escoto blew his ACL, missing FEU’s UAAP Season 76 campaign.
