Robert Bolick on San Beda’s ball movement against EAC: ‘Ang ganda parang Spurs kami’

Though coming out with a win 55-50 win against the Perpetual Altas last Tuesday, coach Boyet Fernandez, Robert Bolick, and the San Beda Red Lions were bothered with the way they played.

During the contest itself, San Beda delved away from its set plays, settling for one-on-one plays. The result? An ugly win that saw them finish with their season-low of 11 assists.

“We discussed that in our post game analysis, every game we do a postgame analysis. We discussed the 11 assists that we had,” shared San Beda head coach Boyet Fernandez. “If you look at our assist ratio, over the whole season, we’re averaging I think near 18 assists per ball game and we only had 11 last game.

“I told the guys really that we have to share the ball because if you will not share the ball, we have a problem against LPU or not only LPU but the rest in the playoffs.”

Bolick became a cavalier after that game, shouldering all the blame as he went just 5-for-18 from the field.

Friday afternoon though, the 21-year-old floor general took the initiave to find his teammates, orchestrating San Beda’s 88-81 win over the EAC Generals.NCAA-93-SBC-EAC-Bolick-0304 Robert Bolick on San Beda's ball movement against EAC: 'Ang ganda parang Spurs kami' Basketball NCAA News SBC - philippine sports news

“We play as a team. Nung practice namin after ng game namin, we made adjustment and went back to basics like extra passes,” said the reigning PBA D-League Aspirants Cup MVP, who tallied 12 assists in the contest. “Ganda ng pinakita namin ngayon mas lalo na nung first quarter.

“Ang ganda parang Spurs kami.”

Though likening himself to Kawhi Leonard, Bolick was more of like a young Manu Ginobili in the contest, taking good shots while finding the open man.

Hearing this made Fernandez gush, saying that Bolick has been a great leader both on and off the court.

“I love this guy. He makes our practice lively and well everybody loves him as well. He’s doing great,” beamed Fernandez.

“It’s not really the points I’m looking for Robert, it’s more of facilitating.”

“Hopefully, ma-continue namin kasi last stretch na ‘to sa season and hopefully na ma-improve pa namin yung kailangan namin ma-improve and dapat consistent na kami,” added Bolick.
