Robbie Herndon gets chance for redemption with Marinerong Pilipino

Filipino-American scorer Robbie Herndon will get another crack at winning that elusive PBA D-League crown as the sixth-seeded Marinerong Pilipino Skippers were able to secure his release from the Wangs Basketball Couriers in time for the Foundation Cup quarterfinals.

“We’ll count on him to give us depth and outside shooting,” said Marinerong Pilipino head coach Koy Banal about the signing.

Herndon has proven that he can knock down buckets, averaging 18.6 points while grabbing 7.9 rebounds for the Couriers this conference.

Joining Herndon with the Skippers is Jon Gabriel. Marinerong Pilipino will take on the twice-to-beat Tanduay Rhum Masters in the quarterfinals in a series that begins on Thursday, August 3.

The Cignal HD Hawkeyes, on the other hand, tapped Jeckster Apinan to beef up their frontline.

During the Commissioner’s Cup, the 6-foot-5 forward played in seven games for the then-Mahindra Floodbuster, averaging 2.6 points and 1.9 rebounds.

Last Tuesday, Cignal added Jonathan Uyloan to replace Simon Atkins.
