Ricky Vargas to usher in new era in Philippine Sports

After years of failed campaigns, Ricky Vargas persevered. On Friday afternoon, it finally paid off as Vargas won the Philippine Olympic Committee presidency in an election held at the Wack Wack Gold and Country Club in Mandaluyong City.

Vargas, who is the president of the Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines and the chairman of the Philippine Basketball Association this season, won with a 24-15 vote over Jose Cojuangco.

Cojuangco, fondly known as Peping, has held the post since 2005.

For the chairmanship of the POC, Cycling president Bambol Tolentino was able to garner 23 votes over Table Tennis’ Ting Ledesma, who only had 15 votes.
