The Cignal HD Spikers recovered from a second set setback in defeating the Philippine Navy Sailors 25-20, 22-25, 25-19, 25-17 to end their elimination round in a strong note in the Spikers Turf Season One Reinforced Conference at the FilOil Flying V Arena, late Saturday afternoon.

The HD Spikers, leading one set to none, relied on Lorenzo Capate and Herschel Ramos to cancel out the attacks of the Sailors in the net, but the errors of the HD Spikers in the latter part of the second set and timely attacks from Nur Amin Madsari and Wilbert Sapida helped the Sailors take away the set from the HD Spikers.

Capate and Ramos along with Alexis Faytaren countered the Sailors’ every offensive rally in third set as they were able to prevent the Philippine Navy in creating any momentum. Cignal continued its offensive blitz on the fourth set for 18-9 advantage. Madsari and Edgardo Rusit led the Navy mini comeback to slow down the momentum of Cignal at 21-17 but Aaron Calderon scored two of Cignal’s last four points to end the match.

After the game Cignal Assistant Coach Dexter Clamor who called the shots for Michael Carino due to other commitments said the HD Spikers is really motivated to bounce back from their lone loss to the Philippine Air Force Airmen, and they wanted to end their elimination campaign with respectable standings.

“Syempre noong natalo kami sa Air Force we were motivated na bumawi. Lalong mahalaga ang panalo sa Spikers Turf dahil maikli langng ang conference so sinabi ng coaching staff sa team pagkatapos ng talo namin sa Air Force na we need to bounce back sa next three games natin at nagawa naman nila kahit medyo nag relax ang team noong second set,” Clamor said.

Capate unloaded with 22 points to lead Cignal while Ramos and Faytaren contributed 13 and 11 markers apiece while setter Ralph Diezmo tossed 41 excellent sets.

Madsari top scored the Sailors with 14 points with Wilbert Sapida and Christopher Senisan chipped 11 points respectively.

Cignal ended its elimination round campaign with four wins against one loss while Philippine Navy(1-3) will finished its elimination round campaign against the IEM Phoenix Volley Masters(1-3) on November 14 at 5:00 PM.
