Taking to the piste one final time, the men of the participating universities once again gave it all their best for the glory of their respective camps. Summoning whatever strength and passion they had left after three exhausting days of spirited and stressful duels, the participating fencers of DLSU, UP, UST, UE, FEU and ADMU took hold of their foil blades and got over their frustrations one final time to compete before the UAAP 77 Fencing Championship finally closed.
Dominating to the end
Forging on despite the heartbreaks and close call they’ve encountered, all the teams were in their A-game as they set to battle one last time at the UP-College of Human Kinetics Gym. The efforts of ADMU’s team composed of Derrick Cabrera, Morgan Joseph, Kyle Lim ang King Manalo, and UST composing Gian Aribe, Mark Garcia, Alexander Macaraig and Jessie Suarez, howeverproved to be lacking as they were quickly denied their chance to fight for a medal after suffering defeats from DLSU’s foil team composed of Hermino Banico III, Juan Paez, Jairus Quvada and multiple bronze medallist Gian Rodriguez and UE’s foil team composed of Alvin Almonte, Michael Nicanor, Kenneth Paraso and bronze winner Nathaniel Perez respectively.
DLSU’s dream of competing for gold however, did not push through regardless of a 10-0 run from Gian Rodriguez against the power of UP, who got the advantage of entering the semis along with UE with no contention, to end the match at 45-35. The UP camp’s victory over DLSU however, did not merit a success as they suffered the same experience DLSU went through the match before as their own herculean 20 point catch up against the ever dominating UE also failed and they eventually went home taking the silver in a spirited match that ended in UE’s favour, 45-35.
