Five-time NCAA champions San Beda Red Lions continued in showing their winning ways this time against the University of San Carlos Warriors, 85-75.
The two teams showcased a fast-paced start as both were able to make their respective presence felt offensively. The Red Lions however, jumped ahead late during the opening canto as they were able to establish an early 24-17 margin against the CESAFI bridesmaid finishers.
The NCAA squad pulled away during the second period with the help of their three point shooting as they knocked down three triples in the quarter. They outscored their Visayas-based counterparts 21-14.
Multiple miniruns were established by the Warriors but Ola Adeogun’s inside presence was effective enough with successive putback buckets in the second half. Art Dela Cruz also made his presence felt with his midrange jumpers.
San Beda established a win out from their deep roster that proved to be a challenge for the Warriors who dropped to 2-1 record after the game.
“Kelangan sanay yung mga bata kung sino dinidepensahan nila.” Coach Junthy Valenzuela shared.
His counterpart former San Beda coach and current NLEX Roadwarriors headcoach Boyet Fernandez also stressed out the unfamilliarity of the teams. “Defense lang yung pwede mong gawin kasi hindi alam yung tendencies ng kalaban. Sa replay lang namin sila napanuod,” He said.
