Raven Cortez stays in La Salle, commits to Green Archers

De La Salle University continues to beef up its lineup.

This time around, the Green Archers were able to secure the commitment of 6-foot-7 big man Raven Cortez, Tuesday afternoon.

Cortez’s agency Titan made the announcement.

“I have understood the responsibility of wearing a La Salle jersey since I was in Grade 7,” read the 17-year-old’s statement. “From its winning tradition, its culture, and what it truly represents…

“Meeting the management and Coach Derrick [Pumaren] added to my excitement to continue my education and basketball career in DLSU.”

The native of Dagupan, Pangasinan did not play during the UAAP Season 82 Boys’ Basketball tournament. He was still recuperating from an MCL injury he sustained in Season 81.

In just three games played in Season 81, he averaged 9.3 points and 8.7 rebounds.

Cortez was a pivotal part in the previous cycle of Gilas Youth, playing in the 2018 U16 Asian, 2018 U17 Worlds, and 2018 U18 Asian FIBA tournaments.

Cortez is still in Grade 12, but will be eligible for Season 84. He will join Kevin Quiambao and Jonnel Policarpio in forming the team’s young frontline.

“Excited ako but I’m focused on getting back. At least, nakapag-commit na ko for a college. Very excited to play with them.”
