Rans Cajolo powers FEU Baby Tamaraws past NU to sweep first round

Far Eastern University-Diliman beat defending Boys Champion National University-Nazareth School, 25-21, 30-28, 23-25, 25-16, in a rematch of last year’s Finals to sweep first round of the UAAP Season 82 Boys’ Volleyball Tournament at Paco Arena Saturday.

Rans Cajolo had four blocks to finish with 22 points while Angelo Lipata had three blocks for a 13-point outing as the Baby Tamaraws extended their perfect run to six matches.

Michaelo Buddin and Arvin Bandola teamed up for 26 hits but their efforts were not enough as the Bullpups fell to 3-3 in fourth place.

Francis Babon had 18 points, including three service aces, five digs and five receptions as University of the East rediscovered its winning ways with a 25-12, 24-26, 25-9, 25-15 win over De La Salle-Zobel, finishing second behind FEU-Diliman with a 5-1 card.

Rey de Vega had three service aces and two blocks for an 18-point effort while Jay Rack De La Noche added 16 points, including four blocks as University of Santo Tomas topped Adamson University, 25-19, 29-27, 25-23, to end up third in the first round at 4-2.

Evander Novillo scored all but one of his 11 points from attacks for the Baby Falcons, who put up a gallant stand in the second and third set before falling short.

Adamson University now sits in fifth place at 2-4, a game behind NU.

The Junior Green Spikers, meanwhile, remained winless in six matches.
