The Rain or Shine Elasto Painters overcame a 15-point deficit using a strong rally in the second half to drown Talk ‘N Text, 88-73 Saturday in the 2015 PBA Governors’ Cup at the University of St. La Salle Gym in Bacolod City.
Down by seven entering the third period, the Elasto Painters began pounding the rock inside to get high-percentage shots while also putting pressure on the defensive end to force turnovers from the Tropang Texters.
After Jayson Castro hit a triple that pulled Talk ‘N Text to within 67-73 in the fourth quarter, Raymond Almazan scored back to back baskets underneath to push the lead to 77-67 with over two minutes left.
The Tropang Texters failed to answer after botched attempts, allowing the Elasto Painters to complete a 30-point turnaround.
Rain or Shine trailed by as much as 15 in the first half before pulling within 31-34. Talk ‘N Text however responded with three triples — two from Jayson Castro and one from Larry Fonacier — to make it 43-34.
Wendell McKines poured 28 points on 12-for-19 shooting to pace the Elasto Painters, which improved to 3-4. He added 16 rebounds and 3 assists while Almazan and Jeff Chan chipped in 10 points apiece.
