Petro Gazz picked up its third consecutive win after staving off Farm Fresh, 25-21, 27-25, 25-19, in the 2024 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference, Thursday at the Philsports Arena in Pasig.
Brooke Van Sickle powered the victory with 26 points on 20 attacks, three blocks, and three aces and nine excellent digs as the Angels recovered from a late deficit in the second set before running away in the third to complete the sweep and hike their standing to 4-1.
“Today, I appreciated the Farm Fresh team. Thank you so much. It was a good game. I understand it was not an easy game. I said to the players before the game, don’t let your guard down,” said Petro Gazz head coach Koji Tsuzurabara.
The Angels crawled back from a 21-24 deficit in the second set and went on a blistering 6-1 finishing kick to take a commanding 2-0 lead.
Petro Gazz sustained its momentum in the third frame, pulling away from the Foxies to finish the game in an hour and 35 minutes.
Jonah Sabete once again provided support for Van Sickle, scoring 11 points on nine attacks and two blocks, along with eight excellent digs in the victory.
“But today, it was still not a good game, not a good judgment. Many of us were frustrated. It was still not a good performance,” said Tsuzurabara.
Petro Gazz will face Chery Tiggo on Thursday, 6:00 p.m. at the Smart Araneta Coliseum
On the other hand, Rizza Cruz scored 11 points to lead Farm Fresh, who slid to 2-4 in the standings, while Trisha Tubu was limited to just eight points in the loss.
Louie Romero delivered 13 excellent sets and seven excellent digs while Janel Delerio registered 13 excellent receptions and nine excellent digs.
Farm Fresh looks to bounce back against PLDT on March 23, 4:00 p.m. at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.
