Petro Gazz bounced back from a heartbreaking loss last Tuesday, handing PLDT its first loss of the tournament, 25-16, 25-23, 25-21, in the 2024 Premier Volleyball League at the Philsports Arena, Saturday.
Brooke Van Sickle delivered 23 points on 21 attacks, one block, and one ace to go along with 12 excellent digs and four excellent receptions.
And she helped the Angels recover from their five-set loss to Choco Mucho while also snapping the High Speed Hitters’ two-game winning streak.
“Well, first of all, we’ve learned from our last game versus Choco Mucho. And coach Koji immediately addressed those errors namin noong last game,” said Petro Gazz assistant coach Stephen Patrona.
With the High Speed Hitters threatening to extend the game, Van Sickle fired a searing cross-court attack.
That kickstarted a three-to-nothing swing that turned a slim 18-17 lead into a 21-17 advantage in the third set.
PLDT managed to slice the lead to two after a Van Sickle error and a Dell Palomata quick, 21-23.
However, a costly service error from Shiela Kiseo pushed the Angels at match point, paving the way for Joy Dacoron to end the game with an ace.
“And well, the girls naman did respond. Nakita naman sa result during this game, and so we did and we got the win,” added Patrona.
Jonah Sabete chipped in 13 points on 13 attacks along with 10 excellent digs. Meanwhile, Remy Palma tallied nine markers in one hour and 29 minutes of play for Petro Gazz.
The team moved to 2-1 in the standings tied with the High Speed Hitters.
The Angels take on Akari next on Saturday, 4:00 PM at the Filoil EcoOil Centre.
On the other hand, Savannah Davison paced PLDT with 19 points along with nine excellent receptions and five excellent digs.
Erika Santos added 10 markers in the loss.
The High Speed Hitters look to bounce back against Capital1 also on Saturday at 2:00 PM.
