PVL: Strong start propels Cignal to commanding victory against Strong Group

Powered by an explosive first set, Cignal vented its frustrations on Strong Group, scoring a decisive 25-7, 25-16, 25-16 sweep in the 2024 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City on Tuesday.

The HD Spikers, who lost in straight-sets to Choco Mucho last time out, hiked their record to 4-1 to join Petro Gazz and Creamline at second to fourth spots.

“Proud sa buong team kasi tinrabaho talaga namin itong laro na ito, sabi ko nga kanina before magstart importante itong game namin kasi kung ano yung pinaghandaan namin sa training dapat maexecute namin sa game,” said Cignal coach Shaq Delos Santos.

SGA was just within two at the first technical timeout of the third frame but Ces Molina came through after that to will the HD Spikers in the quick win.

Molina and Vanie Gandler starred in the victory in 75 minutes, tallying 14 and 16 points, respectively.

Gel Cayuna set the stage for Cignal with 21 excellent sets and five points on two blocks, two attacks, and a service ace.

Sheeka Espinosa paced the Athletics with eight points and 11 digs as they remained luckless in five outings.

Dolly Versoza was also limited to just four points on a 3-of-42 attack clip.

Cignal will return next Tuesday to face the Cool Smashers in the main game at the Philsports Arena, while SGA will battle the one-win Galeries Tower on Saturday.
