PVL: Rondina, Choco Mucho overcome Farm Fresh challenge in five-set nail-biter


Choco Mucho averted disaster against Farm Fresh, escaping 25-15, 24-26, 21-25, 25-21, 15-12, in the 2024 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference at the Philsports Arena in Pasig on Tuesday evening.

Sisi Rondina came to the rescue for the Flying Titans especially in the decider, scoring six of her 29 points there including the pipe kill for the win.

“Ngayon pa lang talagang binigyan na kami ng test talaga para pagdating sa semifinals talaga mamaximize namin yung ginagawa namin,” said Choco Mucho head coach Dante Alinsunurin.

“Credit sa Farm Fresh tinrabaho talaga nila yung in terms of skills sa receive nila talagang doon kami nahirapan,” he added.

With the Flying Titans at match point, 14-10, the Foxies made one last run with

Trisha Tubu and Chinnie Arroyo going crosscourt back-to-back but Rondina ended the match with a booming kill from the backrow.

Choco Mucho rebounded after its straight-set defeat to Choco Mucho last Thursday to finish the elimination round with a 9-2 record.

Rondina also had 18 excellent receptions while Royse Tubino added 16 points and 11 digs.

Isa Molde had 12 points and seven receptions while Maddie Madayag and Cherry Nunag made 12 and 10 points as well in the thrilling win.

The Foxies ended their campaign with a 3-8 card in 10th place.

Tubu fired a career-best 32 points on 30 attacks and two blocks, while Kate Santiago also got her new career-high with 21 along with nine receptions.

With Tubu’s stellar play, Farm Fresh beat Choco Mucho in attacks, 74-66, but the Flying Titans controlled the middle, producing 13 blocks compared to the Foxies’ six.
