PVL: Petro Gazz’s dominant win vs Galeries create three-way tie at the pole

SANTA ROSA — With the semifinals race heading down the wire, Petro Gazz gained a much-needed boost after sweeping also-ran Galeries Tower in dominant fashion, 25-7, 25-21, 25-17, in the 2024 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference, Saturday at the Santa Rosa Sports Complex here.

The Angels rolled to their fourth-straight victory and improved their card to 8-2 and force a three-way tie with defending champion Creamline and Choco Mucho.

Things could immediately turn into a five-way logjam after the day if Chery Tiggo and PLDT claim wins in their respective matches.

“Unang una sumunod lang din po kami sa game plan ng coaches namin. Also, ayun, thankful ako na nakapag-contribute ako sa team and mas marami pa kaming i-ensayo pa,” said Petro Gazz team captain Remy Palma.

Brooke Van Sickle continued to lead the Angels from the front, unloading 17 points on 13 attacks, three service aces, and one kill block. She also had nine excellent digs and four excellent receptions in the 80-minute contest.

Jonah Sabete backstopped her with 11 points on seven attacks, two blocks, and two aces.

Meanwhile, Palma and Marian Buitre chipped in eight and seven markers, respectively, in the victory.

“Yung mga lapses namin kailangan pa i-adjust kasi papahirap na rin yung next games and ‘di pa rin kami pwedeng basta-basta mag-relax,” added Palma.

Petro Gazz will look to solidify its place in the Final Four when they take on another eliminated squad in Nxled on Saturday, 4:00 PM at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.

Meanwhile, the Highrisers, who were coming off a straight-set victory over Farm Fresh last week, dropped to 3-7 in the standings, tied with the Foxies.

No player from Galeries breached the double-digit mark in scoring. France Ronquillo scored a team-high six points, laced with six excellent receptions and four excellent digs in the loss.

Carly Hernandez, Ysa Jimenez, Graze Bombita, and Julia Ipac all had four points.

The Highrisers will look to finish its campaign on a high note when they face off versus semis hopeful Chery Tiggo on Thursday, 4:00 PM, also in Philsports.
