Petro Gazz released its frustrations on Capital1, scoring a 25-11, 25-19, 25-14 rout in the 2024 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference at the Philsports Arena in Pasig on Tuesday.
The Angels were coming off a five-set heartbreaker against Chery Tiggo.
They have improved to 5-2 for solo fourth, just half a game behind the league-leaders in Creamline, Choco Mucho, and PLDT – all at 5-1.
“Last week, we experienced a loss. So over the past couple of days, we’ve returned to the fundamentals of volleyball, resulting in a significant improvement in our performance today,” said Petro Gazz head coach Koji Tsuzurabara.
The Solar Spikers showed some fight in the second set, but it wasn’t enough. The Brooke Van Sickle-led Angels still pulled through for the sweep in one hour and 20 minutes.
Van Sickle finished with 19 points on a hyper-efficient line of 15-of-25 in spikes to go with three aces and a block. She also had seven digs.
Jonah Sabete also delivered for Petro Gazz with nine points, while Remy Palma added seven points.
Tsuzurabara also commended the efforts of his two liberos, Jellie Tempiatura and Blove Barbon. The former went 9-of-12 in digs while the latter went 9-of-16 in receptions.
Des Clemente paced the Solar Spikers with six points.
The team slumped to their fourth straight loss, falling to the the brink of elimination with a 1-6 record.
Both teams will be back on April 6 at the Santa Rosa Sports Complex in Laguna.
