Chery Tiggo captured its second consecutive victory after blanking Gerflor 25-19, 25-20, 25-18 in the 2023 Premier Volleyball League Invitational Conference on Thursday at the Philsports Arena in Pasig.
Mylene Paat fired a team-high 15 points, built on 10 attacks, four blocks, and an ace, to lead the Crossovers to a 2-1 standing in Group A.
The troika of EJ Laure, Cza Carandang, and Pauline Gaston each chipped in seven points in the victory, while Imee Hernandez, who only played in the first set, had six markers for Chery Tiggo.
Already ahead by four points in the third set, 22-18, Cess Robles kick-started the Crossovers’ finishing 3-0 run with a down-the-line hit. Alyssa Bertolano’s attack then sailed out before Cza Carandang secured a block to finish the match.
“Masayang masaya kami sa nilaro ng lahat ng players. Definitely, there are still a lot to improve on. Kailangan namin maging mabilis yung start namin. I think that’s one thing that we have to make up for and I like the fact that everybody was able to step inside the court,” said Chery Tiggo head coach Aaron Velez.
“Kailangan namin i-workout pa yung chemistry namin, yung communication namin para maging mas smooth yung preparation for our next match,” he added.
Bertolano paced the Defenders with 15 points on 12 attacks, two blocks, and an ace, along with 12 excellent receptions and seven excellent digs, as Gerflor dropped to 0-2 in the standings.
No other player reached double digits in scoring for the Defenders as Justine Dorog and Janine Navarro added seven and five points, respectively.
Chery Tiggo will face PLDT next on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., while Gerflor looks to secure their first win against the same squad on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. at the same Pasig venue.
