Choco Mucho secured its fifth consecutive victory after a hard-fought sweep over Akari, 25-23, 25-21, 25-19, in the Premier Volleyball League Second All-Filipino Conference on Saturday at the Philsports Arena.
The Flying Titans relied on their balanced offensive strategy, with four players reaching double digits in scoring, tying with PLDT and Chery Tiggo for the second spot with 5-1 records.
They will later battle it out in the day.
“Well, malaking tulong sa team (na lahat nag-contribute). Alam mo naman na ito yung gusto naming mangyari sa team na every game lahat mag-contribute and mai-panalo yung game,” said Choco Mucho head coach Dante Alinsunurin.
“Based naman doon sa naging performance namin, lahat naman ng gusto naming mangyari sa loob ng court nakuha namin eh. Karga ng serve, makareceive kami, then yung opensa namin mag-connect. Sobrang thankful ako don sa naging performance ng team,” he added.
Isa Molde and Maddie Madayag topped the scoring for the Flying Titans with 13 points each in the 1-hour and 28-minute victory.
Molde scored on 10 attacks, two aces, and one block, while Madayag registered three rejections.
Kat Tolentino added 11 points along with nine excellent digs, while Sisi Rondina had 11 markers on 11 attacks laced with 11 excellent receptions.
Deanna Wong tossed 16 excellent sets along with three points, while Thang Ponce collected 15 excellent receptions and 14 excellent digs.
Ahead by just one point in the third frame, Madayag, Rondina, and Molde joined hands in a 7-2 blast that transformed a 15-14 lead to a 22-16 advantage.
Both teams traded blows from there before Tolentino hammered down an over-receive from the side of the Chargers.
That helped them secure their fifth consecutive victory after losing their opening game against defending champion Creamline.
“Malaking tulong sa amin yung pagkapanalo namin sa Akari sa magiging kumpyansa namin sa susunod na game,” said Alinsunurin.
Akari, after notching their first-ever back-to-back victories, has now dropped two consecutive games to fall to 3-3 and remain in eighth place.
Dindin Santiago-Manabat top scored for the struggling Chargers with 12 points on 10 attacks and two blocks, while Faith Nisperos had 10 points on nine attacks and one block.
Erika Raagas tallied eight points and 14 excellent receptions, while Fifi Sharma had six points.
Choco Mucho will face off against Petro Gazz on Thursday at 6:00 PM at the Filoil EcoOil Centre.
Meanwhile, Akari eyes a bounce-back win over Nxled on Tuesday at 4:00 PM at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
