PVL: Gandler, Cignal pound Galeries in 4, extend streak to 3

Cignal rolled to its third consecutive win while keeping Galeries Tower winless in four sets, 25-17, 25-17, 24-26, 25-11 in the Premier Volleyball League Second All-Filipino Conference at the Philsports Arena, Tuesday night.

The HD Spikers picked up their third consecutive victory and moved to 4-2 in the standings, taking sole possession of sixth place in the win-loss standings.

“Siyempre thank you kay Lord sa panalo. Malaking factor samin tong pagkapanalo. Credits sa Galeries kasi ang ganda nung naging performance nila especially dun sa third set, no. 1 yung service nila, naging consistent talaga, sobrang hard service yung mga binigay nila kanila,” said Cignal head coach Shaq delos Santos.

One set away from completing a sweep, the HD Spikers tried to finish it off in the third after Gel Cayuna converted a 1-2 play that tied the game at 24-all. However, Ysa Jimenez scored back-to-back points, winning the extended frame and sending it to a fourth set.

Cignal then surged to an 18-7 lead in the fourth set before Roma Joy Doromal and Raprap Aguilar engineered a 4-1 spurt to try to close the gap, making it 11-19. Nevertheless, Jerrili Malabanan, Rose Doria, and Jovelyn Gonzaga went on a 6-0 finishing kick to end the game.

“Pero para samin lesson learned lang yung nangyari and part nung process para mas maging matibay and marami kaming ma realize and kailangan maging mas aggresive pa kami,” said delos Santos.

Ces Molina led the HD Spikers with 17 points, along with 16 digs and 11 excellent receptions, while Vanie Gandler added 14 points through 14 attacks in the 1-hour and 50-minute match.

Cignal will face Petro Gazz on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the same venue.

Jimenez led the way for the Highrisers with 14 points, including 12 attacks and two aces, along with 11 excellent receptions, while Doromal had 11 points, including nine attacks, one block, and one ace.

Galeries have now lost all five of their games in the tournament, tying them for the tenth spot with Gerflor.
