PVL: Creamline cruises past Galeries for share of lead

Creamline dispatched Galeries Tower in straight sets, 25-22, 25-17, 25-15, to extend its winning streak to 18 games, Thursday in the 2024 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.

The Cool Smashers encountered a minor hiccup in the opening frame but managed to fend off the Highrisers.

They eventually dominated the next two frames en route to a perfect 3-0 start, tying Choco Mucho at the top spot.

“Based sa performance kanina, okay naman. Nung third set, medyo malayo yung score. Okay naman. At least hindi masyado nagpabaya dun sa mga basic skills na ginagawa namin pa lagi,” said Creamline head coach Sherwin Meneses.

The Rebisco-backed squad overcame disaster in the opening frame after the Highrisers clawed back from a 24-17 hole. They saved five match points to cut the lead to just two points, 24-22.

Fortunately, Rose Vargas saved the Cool Smashers with a kill.

Creamline never looked back from there, pulling away in the second and third sets to end the game in an hour and 18 minutes.

This also hands Galeries its third consecutive loss of the conference.

Michele Gumabao led the Cool Smashers with 10 points, including three blocks, off the bench.

Meanwhile, Tots Carlos and Alyssa Valdez chipped in nine and eight points, respectively, in the team’s balanced offensive attack which produced 11 scorers.

Kyle Negrito glued things together and tossed 18 excellent sets to go along with two points.

“Okay yung rotation. Actually, every game naman kahit sino yung kalaban, pwedeng maging rotation yung team namin. So, ngayon naman, sabi namin mag-perform ng maganda. I-ready yung sarili nila kung sino yung nasa loob,” said Meneses.

“So masaya kami kasi lahat naman nag-perform talaga ng maganda.”

Ysa Jimenez led the winless Highrisers with 11 points and seven excellent receptions while Roma Joy Doromal added nine markers.
