PVL: Cignal rips Gerflor, completes semis cast

Cignal completed the semifinals cast of the Premier Volleyball League Second All-Filipino Conference after sweeping Gerflor, 25-22, 25-11, 25-10, to cap off the elimination round at the Philsports Arena, Tuesday afternoon.

The HD Spikers overcame a tough stand from the Defenders in the first set before dominating the next two en route to tying Chery Tiggo with identical 8-3 records.

They secured the third seed due to their advantage in points.

“Syempre sobrang happy and blessed kasi syempre sa lahat ng pinagdaanan namin na hirap, and ngayon nasa semis kami and I think nag-number three pa kami. Very thankful and kailangan mag-prepare para sa semis,” said Cignal head coach Shaq delos Santos.

A set away from securing its spot in the semis, Gen Casugod stepped up for the HD Spikers. She scored six points in the team’s 22-8 start that put away Gerflor for good after an hour and 10 minutes of action.

Cignal put up a huge lead in the spiking department, unloading 39 attacks against the Defenders’ 24 while also taking an 8-1 advantage in service aces.

“Syempre, like yung sinabi ko kanina, sobrang happy. But kailangan talaga yung pagiging happy namin this time, mapalitan namin ng talagang sobrang eagerness pa na trabahuhin lahat kung ano yung kailangan namin,” added delos Santos.

Casugod fired nine points on six attacks and three service aces while Ces Molina finished with nine markers to go along with eight excellent receptions for the HD Spikers.

Birthday girl Vanie Gandler tallied eight markers and four excellent digs. Jovelyn Gonzaga and Riri Meneses chipped in seven and six points, respectively.
