PVL: Cignal makes quick work of BaliPure, advances to semis

Cignal advanced to the semifinals after sweeping BaliPure, 25-14, 25-9, 25-14 in the quarterfinals of the 2022 Premier Volleyball League Open Conference at the FilOil Flying V Arena, Monday afternoon.

“Sobrang nakaka-proud yung team kasi nagbubunga na yung lahat ng pinaghirapan namin,” said HD Spikers head coach Shaq Delos Santos.

Ces Molina paced the HD Spikers with 12 points and five excellent receptions. Roselyn Doria added 11 points in the game that lasted for just an hour and nine minutes.

Cignal put up a seven-point, 16-9 advantage in the third set to pull away from the Water Defenders.

The HD Spikers led by as much as ten points via a Jerrili Malabanan down the line, 21-11. Then a service error from Alina Bicar and an off-the-block from Glaudine Troncoso sealed the win.

“Good thing, kumbaga kung ano ‘man yung naging puhunan namin, yung foundation namin before may magandang result na nangyayari. But of course hindi kami mag sa-stop kasi alam naming marami pa kaming dapat i-improve,” Delos Santos said.

Ria Meneses delivered four blocks for Cignal to end with nine points. Meanwhile, Rachel Daquis added seven markers, nine excellent digs, and three excellent receptions.

Gel Cayuna tossed 22 excellent sets to go along with three points.

The HD Spikers extended their winning streak to five games.

Cignal showed its deadly form as early as the second set. It blasted BaliPure with a 17-3 run capped off by an off-the-block hit from Jerrili Malabanan to seal the 2-0 advantage.

No player from the Water Defenders reached double digits in scoring with Janine Marciano leading the way with five points.

Norielle Ipac chipped in three points. Jho Maraguinot had two points and 13 excellent receptions.

Cignal will face the winner of the Petro Gazz-F2 Logistics match on April 1, Friday at 3:00 PM. Meanwhile, BaliPure will go down the classification phase on the same day against Black Mamba-Army at 11:00 AM.
