PVL: Cignal concludes conference victorious, sweeps Capital1

Cignal ended its campaign on a high note, dispatching Capital1 in straight sets, 25-19, 25-17, 25-20, in the 2024 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference, Saturday at the Philsports Arena.

The HD Spikers scored back-to-back wins to cap off their campaign, finishing the elimination round with a 7-4 record – good for the sixth spot – after making the semifinals in the past two conferences.

Cignal placed third in the 2023 Invitational and 2023 Second All-Filipino Conference, but failed to make it this time to the postseason after crucial losses to contenders Chery Tiggo and Petro Gazz.

Team captain Ces Molina posted a team-high 12 points while Rose Doria delivered 12 markers as well as the HD Spikers sealed the deal in just an hour and 25 minutes of play.

“Siyempre as a team captain very, very proud ako sa hardwork na binigay ng team namin this conference. Despite na hindi kami nakapasok malaking lesson ‘to and experience as well na dadalhin namin sa next conference,” said Molina.

No other player breached the double-digit mark for Cignal with Jovelyn Gonzaga and Vanie Gandler, who both sat out the third frame, added nine and six points, respectively, in the victory.

Gel Cayuna orchestrated the offense with 19 excellent sets to go along with two points while Dawn Macandili-Catindig and Jheck Dionela recorded nine excellent digs apiece.

Meanwhile, the Solar Spikers capped their maiden campaign with a 1-10 record to finish in 11th.

Skipper Jorelle Singh delivered a game-high 14 points, all on attacks, to lead Capital1.

Ja Lana, Rovie Instrella, and Shirley Salamagos added four points each as the Solar Spikers ended the preliminaries with eight consecutive losses.
