Purefoods heads to PBA 3×3 Leg 5 QF spotless, TNT catches last bus

Purefoods will head into the PBA 3×3 Leg 5 quarterfinals unblemished after downing Limitless App, 19-14, Sunday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.

Pao Javelona and Jun Bonsubre transpired to give the Titans the separation needed to eventually finish as the top seed of Pool A with a 4-0 card.

The bruising big man broke the 10-all tie first, and the heady floor general followed it up with a pull-up from the elbow for a two-point lead with 4:10 to go.

Their lead rose to four, 15-11, with 2:26 left thanks to Javelona’s deuce. Jed Mendoza took it from there as he applied the finishing touches to the win.

Javelona finished with a game-high seven points. Mendoza had six, as Bonsubre and Joseph Eriobu each chimed in three markers.

The Leg 4 champions will face TNT in the knockout quarterfinals.

Rulers of the maiden stop, the Tropang Giga beat Barangay Ginebra, 21-10, in the do-or-die clash for the last playoff berth.

Two other teams are headed into the next round spotless, with Meralco and Platinum Karaoke finishing atop their respective groups with 3-0 cards.

A regular fixture in the title picture, the Bolts emerged as the best team in Pool B following a come-from-behind win against a misfiring Terrafirma, 20-13.

The second leg champions saw themselves down four early, but made an 11-1 run to take control. Tonino Gonzaga led the fightback with nine markers.

Meralco will face a familiar foe in San Miguel later. The Dyip, on the other hand, is set to collide with guest team Pioneer Pro Tibay.

Platinum, meanwhile, swept Pool C after edging Sista in overtime, 21-19, marking yet another time that the guest team finished pool play cleanly.

Karl Dehesa finished with 10 points, including his clinching freebies in extra time to save his side after losing a 17-12 lead in regulation.

Still looking for its first title, Platinum is set to take on Limitless App.
