Gilas Pilipinas, against all odds, etched their names into the annals of sporting history during the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. Guided by the last-minute appointment of Coach Tim Cone, the team faced numerous challenges, including limited preparation time and a crucial loss to Jordan in the preliminaries.

Undeterred, the Filipino cagers embarked on an incredible journey, staging a phenomenal comeback that culminated in a 77-76 victory over host and defending champion China in the semifinals. The Miracle in Hangzhou saw Justin Browlee’s heroic three-pointers, securing a place in the championship round. In the finals, a motivated Gilas side clinched an 80-70 victory over Jordan, bringing home the country’s first Asian Games basketball gold in 61 years.

For this remarkable achievement, the entire Gilas Pilipinas team will receive the prestigious 2023 President’s Award during the Awards Night, an honor bestowed by the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) and presented by ArenaPlus, with major sponsors including the Philippine Sports Commission, Philippine Olympic Committee, PLDT/SMART, and Milo.
