The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) has informed the Hangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee (HAGOC) about potential roster changes in certain national associations, including the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas’ men’s 5-on-5 squad, during the pre-delegation registration meeting (DRM) held online on Wednesday afternoon.
“We are making a strong push for roster changes in some of our national teams to ensure they have a strong finish in the games,” said POC President Rep. Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino.
The Philippine delegation consists of 395 athletes participating in 40 sports in Hangzhou. The list was submitted to HAGOC prior to the Entry by Names deadline on July 25.
Tolentino explained that the final DRM scheduled for September 17 in Hangzhou will determine whether the requested changes have been approved.
“The POC has already communicated the potential changes in the composition of the Philippine delegation to HAGOC, and we hope that these changes will receive approval,” Tolentino emphasized. “However, we are advocating strongly for them.”
The DRM is a critical meeting between a national Olympic committee and the games organizer (in this case, Olympics, Asian Games, Southeast Asian Games, among others). It covers various aspects, not just delegation members, but also major concerns such as travel, accommodation, local transport, and logistical arrangements.
