Pinoyliga: Manzano tows Adamson past FEU for first win


Adamson University had to dig deep to defeat Far Eastern University, 76-72, earning their first win in Group Edge of the 2023 Pinoyliga Collegiate Cup on Tuesday at the Enderun Gymnasium.

Cedrick Manzano led the way for the Soaring Falcons with a double-double performance of 17 points, 12 rebounds, three assists, and three steals.

Kenji Cañete also nearly earned a double-double with 23 points, nine rebounds, and one steal, while Jhon Calisay and Ray Allen Torres contributed 13 and 12 points, respectively.

No Tamaraw reached double-digit scores, as James Tempra and Patrick Sleat produced nine points to lead FEU, with the former adding eight rebounds.

Adamson, FEU, and Perpetual now have the same 1-1 record in the standings.

Meanwhile, De La Salle University defeated Lyceum of the Philippines University, 80-76, to earn its second straight win in Group Prime.

The Green Archers now hold the top spot with a 2-0 record, while the Pirates fell to 1-2, tying with Guang Ming College.

Raven Cortez led La Salle, finishing with 14 points, five rebounds, an assist, and a block, while backcourt mates Bright Nwankwo and Jonnel Policarpio each produced 10 points.

Henry Agunnane topped the boards for the Green Archers with nine rebounds to go along with five points and two blocks.

Enoch Valdez spearheaded the Pirates with a double-double, scoring 22 points, 11 rebounds, two assists, three steals, and a block, while Carl Allatica contributed 11 points, four rebounds, and two assists.

In the other Group Prime match, JL Delos Santos’ return helped Jose Rizal University attain its first win, defeating Philippine Christian University, 94-79.

The senior cager scored a game-high 21 points, four rebounds, six assists, and two steals. Vince Sarmiento backed up Delos Santos, providing a double-double with 16 points, 12 rebounds, and two blocks.

Shawn Argente added 14 points while also contributing two rebounds and one steal.

The Heavy Bombers are now in the win column with an even 1-1 record, while the Dolphins are still looking to break their skid with a 0-3 record.

John Lloyd Balvarin led PCU with 15 points, five assists, and three steals. Fernand Bessala and Mark Ordoñez both scored 14 points, with the former adding seven rebounds, while Llonel Failon and Yam Concepcion scored 10 and nine points, respectively.
