Coming off a 0-15 loss to Chinese-Taipei, the Philippine Women’s National Baseball Team regrouped, taking a 6-2 stunner over powerhouse squad China, Wednesday at Panda Stadium in China.
It was a pivotal win for the Philippines as it raised its slate to 1-1 in the Super Round in the 2019 BFA Women’s Baseball Asian Cup.
A win over Japan on Thursday brings the Filipinas to the finale of the tournament on Friday.
Starting pitcher Nicole Estante shut out China in five innings pitched. Her masterpiece included five strikeouts.
On the other end, the Philippines had seven hits in the contest, including two from Lea Guevarra. Ivy Capistrano meanwhile had two RBIs and two runs.
Esmeralda Tayag, Charlotte Sales, and Guevarra also had an RBI each.
Despite giving up two runs in the sixth inning, Clariz Palma still closed out the game with a 1-2-3.
Both Chinese-Taipei and Japan have 2-0 slates in the Super Round.
