Philippines ranks 41 in latest FIBA men’s rankings


Gilas Pilipinas Men fell eight spots in the latest FIBA Men’s World Rankings presented by NIKE, dropping from 33 to 41.

In the latest rankings that covered the numerous FIBA tournaments, including the World Cup Qualifiers’ Window 3 and 4 and the Asia Cup, the Philippines fell to its lowest spot since climbing to as high as no. 27 in the world back in 2016.

In the Asia-Australia zone, the Philippines dropped to eighth, behind no. 3 Australia, no. 21 Iran, no. 23 New Zealand, no. 27 China, no. 34 Korea, no. 35 Jordan, and no. 38 Japan.

Lebanon also climbed up 10 spots to rise to no. 43, just two rungs behind the Philippines.

Gilas are currently 3-3 in Group E of the FIBA World Cup 2023 Asian Qualifiers. They finished in ninth place during the FIBA Asia Cup with a 1-3 record, losing to Japan in the playoff, 102-81.

USA and Spain remain 1-2 in the world while Argentina and France complete the top five, in that order.

At the boys’ level, the Philippines rose seven places to world no. 24.

Gilas Boys finished in seventh place during the under-16 competition and in sixth place in under-18.

The Philippines ranks fourth in Asia, only behind no. 8 Australia, no. 21 China, and no. 22 Chinese-Taipei.

USA is also on top of the division.
