The Philippine Women’s National Floorball Team carved two goals in the final period but the Thailand lead was too much, as the Filipinas absorbed their first defeat, 3-6, in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, Tuesday.
The Thais took control of the match early on and scored three goals in the opening period off Nelly Johansson, Aliisa Syrjaenen, and Soraya Klinsrisuk, to take the 3-0 advantage.
The Nationals then capitalized on a man-advantage at the onset of the second period as Hanna-Carmen Englund found Roxane Ruiz to cut the deficit at two, 1-3.
Nonetheless, the visitors were just too fast in transition. The Thais broke the game open with three consecutive hits and put it out of reach.
Michelle Lindahl and Michelle Cruzado tried to steer the Filipinas with two goals in the dying minutes. However, the run was too late, as the Thais walked away with the victory.
Despite the loss, team captain Cruzado was still optimistic of their chances to move forward.
“I think we have a great chance in the next game. We’re gonna give our best, a hundred-percent. We’ll go for the win,” she said.
