The Philippine National Volleyball Federation has set up exhibition matches for the men’s and women’s national indoor teams against the national teams set to arrive for Week Two of the 2022 Volleyball Nations League season.
According to PNVF president Tats Suzara, this will be the federation’s treat for the fans.
“Our national teams, men and women, will have a chance to play with these world-class teams,” said Suzari during last Tuesday’s edition of the Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum, presented by San Miguel Corporation (SMC), MILO, Amelie Hotel Manila, Braska Restaurant, Daily Tribune, and the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR).
“This is really part of the schedule, the timetable. Because there are three days kasi na gap before they go to the next site, so it’s better for them to stay one more day or two more days to have an exhibition match.
“Magkakaroon pa tayo ng parang fan’s day for these teams,” he continued.
Action in the women’s side kick off the two-week hostilities as USA will be joined by China, Japan, Russia, Belgium, Poland and Thailand in the competition set June 13 to 19 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
The following week from June 21 to 26, it’s the turn of the men’s teams to hug the limelight with France facing Tokyo Olympics silver and bronze medalist Russia and Argentina, respectively, Japan, Slovenia, Italy, Germany, and the Netherlands at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Suzara has already booked Japan and Russia to face the women’s team while the men’s quad will face Argentina and Italy or Japan.
For Suzara, he hopes that under his term, the Philippines can be part of the VNL one day.
“Hopefully in the near future, makakasama na tayo sa VNL. This is one step forward, that the VNL is now coming to the Philippines for the first time.”
For the event itself, the PNVF is hoping that they can have at least 50-percent attendance in both the SMART Araneta Coliseum and the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
