Petron’s Cherry Rondina-Bernadeth Pons sweep Pool A

The highly-touted tandem of Cherry Rondina and Bernadeth Pons was able to eke out twin victories against the Generika-Ayala Lifesavers A and the Cocolife Asset Managers A, to sweep Pool A of the 2018 PSL Beach Volleyball Challenge Cup, Wednesday at the SM Sands By The Bay.

“Hindi kami makatalon nung first set,” recalled Cherry Rondina after their win against Generika-Ayala. “Buti na lang nakuha namin yung second and third set.”

Petron bucked a slow start in the first game of the tournament against Generika-Ayala, taking a 19-21, 21-14, 15-8 victory. Later in the day, the duo vented their ire on Cocolife-A, 21-19, 21-10.

Patty Orendain and Fiola Ceballos of Generika-A will face Danika Gendrauli and Nene Bautista of Cocolife in a win-or-go-home match-up tomorrow.

Both Sta. Lucia Lady Realtors squads were able to take home wins as well.

In pool B action, DM Demontano and Jackie Estoquia of Sta. Lucia-A escaped Cignal-A, 14-21, 21-19, 15-5, while Sta. Lucia-B’s Jonah Sabete and Bianca Lizares swept Cocolife B.

In other games, the Viray twins of Foton hammered Cignal B, 21-16, 21-17, while Cignal A escaped Generika B in three sets to even their slate.

For the men’s side, Sands took the lead in Pool A, after the pair of Bryan Bagunas and James Natividad scored two wins in Pool A.
