Petro Gazz storms back against Capital1 to clinch final PVL quarterfinal spot

RODRIGUEZ, RIZAL – Petro Gazz shook off a narrow setback in the extended opening set and stormed back with a dominant performance, defeating Capital1, 25-27, 25-13, 25-10, 25-13, to secure the final quarterfinal berth in the 2025 Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference on Saturday night at the Ynares Center Montalban here.

The Angels’ victory, which lifted them to 4-3, officially eliminated Chery Tiggo and Choco Mucho from playoff contention.

Petro Gazz completes the eight-team cast for the knockout quarterfinals with two playdates still left in the elimination round. They are now level with Akari and Cignal from fifth to seventh places.

The Angels can still rise as high as fifth, but they must sweep their final assignment against PLDT on Thursday at 6:30 PM at the SM Mall of Asia Arena. Their final seeding will also depend on the outcomes of the remaining matches.

Meanwhile, the Solar Spikers — who earlier secured a playoff berth alongside the Chargers and Super Spikers after Chery Tiggo’s loss to the High Speed Hitters — slipped to seventh with a 3-4 record.

Capital1 will face Galeries Tower on Thursday at 1:30 PM as it looks to improve its standing in the final stretch of the eliminations.
