Petro Gazz snags ex-SLR trio Phillips, Pontillas, Pineda

Petro Gazz completed its recruiting haul by signing three of the biggest free agents in the market.

MJ Phillips, Aiza Maizo-Pontillas, and Bang Pineda have found a new home with the Angels following the disbandment of their former team Sta. Lucia.

The Lady Realtors are taking a leave of absence from the Premier Volleyball League this season.

“Finally! Let’s officially welcome 3 of our newest Angels!” read the team’s statement.

Phillips, 26, had been a mainstay in Sta. Lucia since 2017. The 6-foot spiker has been the Lady Realtors’ leading scorer.

Maizo-Pontillas, meanwhile, only spent one season with Sta. Lucia after the disbandment of Petron. Though playing sparingly during her sole year with the Lady Realtors, the 5-foot-10 opposite hitter still delivered.

Finally, Pineda will be playing for her seventh team in eight years.

Petro Gazz also signed Nicole Tiamzon, Cienne Cruz, Djanel Cheng, Jonah Sabete, and Yeye Gabarda during the off-season.

The eight players look to fill the shoes left by Ria Meneses, Kath Arado, Ces Molina, Jerrili Malabanan, Alina Bicar, Ivy Perez, Mean Mendrez, Jessey De Leon, and Rica Enclona.
