The University of Perpetual Help System DALTA Altas trio of alumnus Gerald Dizon, senior GJ Ylagan, and junior Jielo Razon utilized the half-court shot in the Shooting Stars Competition as their weapon to win the second event in the NCAA Season 93 All-Star Day, Friday afternoon at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan City.
“Masarap sa pakiramdam. Bago pa lang, nagusap na kami na kunin namin ‘to,” said Altas skipper Ylagan.
The half-court shot proved to be pivotal in Perpetual’s win, as Razon knocked down Altas’ first attempt from that range in the preliminary round to clock in at 20.0 seconds, while Dizon downed the final shot in their showdown against the Arellano Chiefs troika of Donald Gumaru, Zach Nicholls, and Kobe Camacho.
“After training, napupustahan kasi kami (kung sino makakapasok ng half-court shot),” Dizon recalled about his days in Perpetual. “Kung sinong talo, bibili ng McDo.”
Arellano qualified in the final with a time of 31.0 seconds but struggled in the finals with the half-court shot, clocking in at 41.7 ticks.
Defending champions JRU Heavy Bombers were represented by Dave Sanchez, MJ Dela Virgen, and Toby Agustin. The team finished the course with a time of 1:21.
