Perlas Pilipinas recovered from a heartbreaking defeat to Thailand and flashed a better effort on the offensive end to destroy a lowly Vietnam squad, 100-55 Wednesday in 2015 Southeast Asian Games at the OCBC Arena in Singapore.
Using a 32-11 onslaught in the third period, the Philippines pulled away and never looked back to record its first win after 57-62 setback to Thailand yesterday. The Philippines also did a better job of moving the ball well, assisting 25 of its 40 made field goals while shooting at a 53-percent clip.
Afril Bernardino, who was the lone Perlas member in double digits yesterday, once again scored in twin digits with 10. Allana Lim scored 17 points on 8-for-12 shooting while Clare Castro added 13 points as the Perlas bigs took advantage of the diminutive Vietnamese frontline.
Perlas posted a 44-31 advantage in rebounds, and forced 27 turnovers from the Vietnamese side which included 19 steals. Vietnam in contrast shot a lethargic 33 percent overall including only 19 percent from three-point area.
It was the second blowout loss for Vietnam which also lost to host squad Singapore, 58-99.
The Philippines resumes to action tomorrow against world no. 40 Malaysia, a team that has given the country problems in international basketball.
