The PBA 3×3 remains very much a part of the league’s plans.
Commissioner Willie Marcial said that the halfcourt competitions will return to action a week after the 2021-22 Governors’ Cup resumption.
The regular 5-on-5 tilt is targeted to continue by the first week of February following the Board of Governors’ approval in their special meeting Monday.
“Nag-report na si PBA 3×3 Chairman Dickie Bachmann na a week after mag-start ng five-on-five, magre-resume na rin ang 3×3,” he told Tiebreaker Times.
The board, said Marcial, felt pleased with how the first conference of the PBA 3×3 went last year, thus the easy green-lighting for its return to action.
“Nagustuhan din ng board ang mga pangyayari sa 3×3,” he said.
The first conference opened on November 20 and concluded last December 29. Limitless App saw itself crowned as the first-ever grand champions.
Made up of Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser, Marvin Hayes, Jorey Napoles, and Reymar Caduyac, the Appmasters bagged PHP750,000.
Guest team Platinum Karaoke settled for a runner-up finish. Meanwhile, first leg champions TNT secured third place after beating Terrafirma.
The league should have opened the second conference last January 8, but it had to pause all activities due to the spike of COVID-19 cases.
Fourteen teams will duke it out once the new conference begins, with Master Sardines the newest to join the fray.
Marcial had previously said that one more ball club is trying to join the league, but the parties involved have yet to close the deal.
