The PBA will welcome a select French team later this year for a series of exhibition matches against its squads.
In a story published on its official website Wednesday, the league will host the visitors this September.
This, after Commissioner Willie Marcial met with French Ambassador to the Philippines Miche’le Boccoz and French Embassy Counselor for Cooperation and Cultural Affairs, Marc Piton recently.
The French Ambassador actually watched Game Three of the Governors’ Cup Finals between eventual champ Ginebra and Meralco, and reportedly hatched the idea.
“Definitely, maganda ito para sa PBA and magandang experience din para sa teams,” Marcial told PBA.ph.
The league chieftain also proposed a tune-up between the French team and Gilas Pilipinas in the first week of September. By then, the Nationals will be preparing for the Asian Games.
That, however, will still depend on how the idea will sit with head coach Chot Reyes, according to Marcial. The Asiad will take place on September 10-25 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China.
The friendlies are also part of the 75th year celebration of the Philippines-France friendship on June 26.
