For his bravery to ensure that the PBA played through extraordinary times, Commissioner Willie Marcial was bestowed the title Mr. Executive in the PBA Press Corps Awards Night Sunday at the TV5 Media Center.
The amiable exec, who’s entering his fourth year at the helm, was honored by the group covering the PBA beat for leading the 500-strong delegation on their way to successfully stage the Philippine Cup bubble in Clark.
The bubble was without a hitch, but Marcial, strong-minded and firm in his decisions, managed to navigate a troubled season into safe waters and put a fitting end to easily the most challenging period in PBA history.
Even prior to the bubble, the former PBA media bureau chief had already done whatever he could just to make sure that Asia’s pioneering pro league will see action amidst the novel coronavirus pandemic.
This is the first time Marcial has won the award given in lieu of the usual Danny Floro Executive of the Year, which was last won by PBA Chairman Ricky Vargas in 2019.
