Guiao gets wish as PBA referee Yante suspended

PBA referee Rey Yante has been suspended by the league for the rest of the playoffs mainly after a judgement error on top of inconsistencies while officiating Game 2 of the semi-finals between Rain or Shine and Meralco. [READ: Guiao slams PBA referee for ‘inventing calls’]

Guiao earlier said Yante was a liar, and also shared the instances where he felt they got the wrong end of Yante’s incompetence.

“There is also a play where tinulak si (Raymond) Almazan, and tinulak rin siya ni (Josh) Davis pero si Almazan lang ang natechnical,” Guiao told reporters Sunday night.

In another play, Yante was the baseline referee when Jonathan Uyloan attacked and was blocked by Cliff Hodge as seen on the replay. Yante however, awarded possession to Meralco.

“It was clearly naglay-up si (Jonathan) Uyloan, and nasupalpal ni (Cliff) Hodge. Nasa harap niya. I don’t know what judgement he gave us. I don’t know if this is something personal. Di ko alam kung bakit nagrereferee pa siya.”

Four-team, six-player deal

A trade involving four teams and six cagers has been approved by the league as per its transactions page.

Ginebra and Barako Bull earlier swapped Billy Mamaril for Dave Marcelo, but it turned out to be just the first part of a huge picture.

After all the shipping, the final picture sees San Miguel Beer receiving Yancy De Ocampo and Gabby Espinas, Globalport receiving Doug Kramer and Mamaril, Barako Bull gets Rico Maierhofer. while Ginebra gets to keep Marcelo.
