PBA makes way for Asiad, moves Season 48 opening to Nov 5

The Philippine Basketball Association is once again making the ultimate sacrifice.

With 11 of Gilas Pilipinas’ players and the entire staff for the 19th Asian Games composed of personnel from the league, it has decided to move the opening day of the league’s 48th season to November 5.

Initially, the league was scheduled to begin on October 15.

The opening will still take place at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.

“Para ibigay sa mga players para makapagpahinga at para sa mga teams na makapag-practice nang mabuti,” said league commissioner Willie Marcial, who is also the assistant team manager of Gilas Pilipinas for the continental meet.

The Commissioner’s Cup will still kick off the season with 12 teams despite the disbandment of the Bay Area team.

There will be no guest teams for the import-laden conference.

The first activity for Season 48 will still be the Rookie Draft on Sunday.
