BACOLOD – Calvin Oftana took the throne from Paul Lee to become the new Three-Point Shootout king in the PBA All-Star Bacolod 2024, Saturday.
Much to the delight of the crowd present at the University of St. La Salle Coliseum, the TNT winger rifled in 25 points in the Final, catching fire in the later racks to surpass the 20 points produced by the erstwhile reigning titlist.
His win, furthermore, foiled the Magnolia star’s bid of becoming the first back-to-back winner of the contest since Terrence Romeo (2015-16).
Oftana’s outstanding performance in the championship round no longer came as a surprise. As the last shooter of the first round, the 28-year-old fired 22 points to join the veteran guards in the Final, besting Kenneth Tuffin.
The Phoenix rookie was bound to complete the last round when he became the third player to hit 20 points after Lee and Newsome with 26 and 28 points, respectively, until Oftana came in and spoiled the party.
Oftana, who’s set to play for Team Japeth Aguilar in the All-Star Game on Sunday night, became Php 30,000 richer as well with the triumph.
Also part of the Three-Point Shootout among guards and wings were Maverick Ahanmisi, two-time winner James Yap, Alec Stockton, Robbie Herndon, Arvin Tolentino, Andrei Caracut, Marcio Lassiter, and Javi Gomez de Liano.
