Patrombon-Alcantara, Huey-Gonzales forge all-Filipino SEAG tennis finals

The Philippine National Tennis Team will not go gold-less, with the two men’s doubles pairs booking their places in the gold medal match, Friday at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.

The top-seeded pair of the tournament Treat Huey and Ruben Gonzales took down Le Quoc Khanh and singles champion Ly Hoang Nam, 6-1 6-3, to book their place in the gold medal match

After missing out on the gold in the singles event, Jeson Patrombon vented his ire in the doubles semis.

With fellow Mindanaoan Francis Alcantara, the singles bronze medalist found their groove to stop Daniel Nguyen and Nguyen Van Phuong, 6-3 6-1, to arrange the dream final.

“That was our goal – to reach the finals, and get the old and silver for the Philippines,” said Alcantara.

He added, “Now we are there, we’re going to have fun and pretend that it’s a practice game tomorrow na lang.”

The men’s doubles gold medal match is scheduled on Saturday at the same venue.
