Just a few weeks after their first foray into the pros with Farm Fresh, Gayle Pascual and the rest of College of Saint Benilde returned to their stomping grounds on Sunday.
The defending NCAA champions were once again competing in the collegiate ranks, this time taking part in the Shakey’s Super League Invitationals.
Gayle Pascual, alongside the whole team, doesn’t feel any change playing against collegiate teams despite having already played against the best of the best the country has to offer.
“Hindi naman po nakakapanibago kasi same lang naman po ‘yon. Volleyball player din naman sila, sa PVL volleyball player din sila. Tinitignan lang naman namin sila as one, and mas tinitignan lang namin ‘yung performance namin syempre,” Pascual told Tiebreaker Times.
“Hindi naman porket galing kami sa PVL tapos biglang collegiate dapat iba na. So ‘yung performance talaga namin ‘yung pinaka-importante,” she added.
Pascual and the team only focus on one thing: performance in every game.
The Lady Blazers recently swept the Notre Dame of Dadiangas University, 25-20, 25-15, 25-18, in the Shakey’s Super League Invitationals on Sunday afternoon at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.
Pascual only played in the first set, finishing with a couple of aces.
“Siguro sa PVL, mga veteran talaga, mahirap magkamali doon kasi ‘yung palitan ng point don is one is to one. Kapag nagka-error yung team namin, mahirap na maghabol, unlike dito (collegiate) makakasabay pa kami, medyo kampante pa,” the opposite-hitter said.
After finishing in 13th place in the Premier Volleyball League, Pascual was proud to say that their experience in the pro league was a big thing for them and their growth.
“’Yung PVL experience namin, malaking bagay ‘yon sa team kasi nakikita pa namin kung ano ‘yung kulang namin, na kung ano ‘yung pwede naming itama during the break,” Pascual concluded. (Jan Marcus Montevirgen)
